TD&Co. honors the life of founding partner David Campbell (January 28, 1936 - November 28, 2024)

David Campbell (1936 - 2024)

The Thompson Davis & Co. team is saddened to note the passing of founding partner David Campbell.

David, who retired from the firm this spring, had a storied career with TD&Co. It began in July 2002, when he helped launch the firm’s institutional sales and research business, covering global logistics companies.

David began his investment career in 1962 with U.S. Trust Co. after three years in the U.S. Navy. In 1965, he launched his institutional sales and research business with Vanden Broeck Lieber & Co. in New York City. He moved to Richmond in 1970, where he continued in sales and research with Wheat & Co. until 1985. David helped Scott & Stringfellow start its institutional sales department that year and was involved in corporate finance and research there until 2000. He continued in sales and research with Branch Cabell & Co. from 2000 to 2002.

In recent years, David worked from home, but he came by the office regularly, usually with his beloved dog Barney, who roamed the hall to greet us. And in retirement, whenever David and his wife Mary stopped by, they brought laughter and stories with them. We will miss him.

Our offices will be closed on Friday so that staff can attend memorial services and pay their respects to a treasured colleague and friend.
